Good morning everyone Happy Thursday raining here in Walton Ky Anick that is fantastic news on how quickly your dad recuperated from the surgery. We are for Teddy sorry he is still not eating and feeling not too well. Laura I added rows to make it look as long as the picture showed. That sun porch is Rosemarie as Di is allergic to bee stings and did not want bees when sitting outside. Reminds me of my sun porch I had in Florida I certainly miss sun porch where they are enclosed and no bugs bother you. We play cards out there when the weather is a little cooler as now we may sit out early in the morning then go inside it gets too hot. Don't feel bad about putting the muzzle on Pippi I had to do the same thing to Sabrina so she would not pick up and eat the acorns since we had to pay for surgery when she was young as she swallowed a whole acorn that got stuck in her lower intestine from that time on when she went outside she had a muzzle. She was able to drink water just not pick up unwanted food. Lisa for the compliments about the shawl. I hope Tori doesn't stop eating because when she does I will really be worried as the vet said since her kidneys are 75 percent shot watch for when she starts losing weight and as long as she is eating she won't lose weight. My cousin got home from the hospital last night her doctor wants to see her in a couple weeks as soon as that side is healed he wants to operate on the other side. The one he did the other day was 100 percent blocked and her artery was torn and the next one is 85 percent blocked. He was worried about her she wasn't coming out of the anesthesia he told her niece they almost lost her. She will be 60 on October 13 and it is rough as she is heavy and she is a diabetic. Marty so you got Hershey shaved down and you can see how his paws are bent from the arthritis. Kathy tell your mommy to get some rest while she can Toby how are your mommy's eyes doing Hugs Dee & Tori

Teddy is still refusing to eat his food, it is not that he as trouble eating, he did grab a big piece of beef the other day and had to chew it down, so we pray he get hungry enough to eat his food. Willy as to wear a muzzle when we go on walk because he swallow everything he can grab, plastic and all kind of things, and I had enough of running back home to give him peroxide to get the stuff out.

Dee, my sun porch gets too hot in the summer, too. Some mornings I sit out there and eat my breakfast and watch the birds, but other mornings it is too humid to really enjoy it. I get a lot of use out of it in the spring and fall. And with the windows closed I can often sit out there in the afternoon in the winter. I leave some of the windows cracked most of the year. Dutchess lost weight quickly towards the end. I didn't know it at the time, but her kidney values were way out of whack. She had had blood work a few months prior and kidneys were okay then but we were watching liver enzymes. So I was surprised when we did blood work again and kidney values were off the charts. She often didn't want to eat much, and sometimes couldn't keep down what she did eat. I've often wondered what made things change so quickly. Anick, I sure hope Teddy's appetite returns. Is there anything the vet can give him to help stimulate it to try and jump start things? Nothing exciting going on here. I was trying to mop earlier and one pet or another seemed to feel the need to sit in the way. hehe. Tomorrow I am going hiking in the Smokies with some friends. We're doing a short hike to a waterfall. I'm looking forward to it. Just wish I could take dogs, but they aren't allowed on most of the trails in the park. - Laura (Pippi, Cheeky, Inky and Nimbus)

Good afternoon ladies! Anick, I am so sorry Teddy still isn't eating. I looked online, and there are a few suppestinos from PetMD. Rotisserie chicken, acupuncture, mirtazapine, Ghrelin Receptor Agonist, and CBD products. Here's the link:
www.petmd.com/dog/nutrition/6-appetite-stimulants-dogsLaura, I remember when I had to give one of my dog's doxycycline and the doctor saying it would increase their appetite. So there must be something! (I will have to do the same for Tango!) I remember one of the houses we lived in as a girl had what they called an Arizona room. It was really just a sun porch! Ha ha! Dee, I'm so glad your cousin DID come out of the anesthesia! I had an aunt (my mom's sister) who never came out of it. It was very unexpected!! I hope Tori keeps eating for you!!

Have fun on that hike, Laura! I wish I could do something fun like that. I have been trying to gradually rebuild my stamina with short walks. The high heat and being housebound has not done me any favors.
I hope Teddy keeps stealing food and eating. I am on steroids right now, and they sure make you hungry. Could Teddy benefit from a course of steroids?
Dee, I remember how scary it was when Sabrina ate acorns! I can’t walk past one without thinking of her and holding Toby’s leash tighter.

Teddy did eat breakfast this morning! We did look at stimulant but the vet was afraid to give him something right now for a few reasons. First, we are still not sure what did happen and some stimulant could have make another seizure happen. Second, he as a heart murmur, even if it is tiny you got to be careful what you give with that condition. And last, some Border Collies have what they call the Collie gene, Teddy is one of them, and what that gene does is that some simple medication can affect the nervous system in different way and can often cause a sudden death, for example, he can't have regular flea medication, it could be deadly for him. Our vet say stimulant would have been a very last and risky solution for old Teddy.

Anick I don't blame you for putting the muzzle on Willy to keep him from swallowing things that are harmful I did that for Sabrina she would get an Acorn and Geordie she never ate the acorns she swallowed them whole that is how come it got stuck in her lower intestine and had to have surgery to remove it. Anick you are smart not to try things as it could cause another seizure which you don't want but glad to hear Teddy ate this morning. Laura have fun on your hike. Toby that was a scary time with Sabrina but smart to pull Toby leash tighter so he doesn't grab acorns Lisa so sorry what happened to your aunt not coming out of the anesthesia. I would not want to be the person giving out anesthesia that to me is more scary than the surgery itself. Well I played Zoom Bingo yesterday I did not win but Rosemarie did win one game not sure if we will play again because the lady we quit going to Bingo on Thursday is signed up for Zoom Bingo and any cumber that is called she is making those sounds we could not stand at bingo but since she is at home she ca do what se wats so may not play it again. My cousin Cindy is home but her niece Vicki who took her home has been messaging me she is really concerned for her aunt but since it is a new relationship for her and Cindy she did not want to overstep thought I may be able to help since I have known her for years maybe she would listen to me. Anyway she was sending me pictures of my cousins how how nasty it is boxes everywhere surprise Cindy can get to the bathroom and besides that the cats she has urinating everywhere and feces everywhere her one dog she does not take outside wherever it poops or pees and the doorway coming in has a lot of poop and pee not cleaned up said the house reeks bad she asked Cindy nicely how she could breathe and Cindy got offensive said she has not problems breathing in the house but it certainly explains her husband Tommy had COPD and he was forever in and out of the hospital and probably because of the smell at home but I could be wrong. Vicki said she would call code enforcement but with the condition they would take away her animals and she doesn't want her aunt hurt as she has gone through enough heart ache as her animals are all she has and I fully agreed with her saying if her animals were taken away it would be the last straw and kill her. She said her breathing that in her condition and nasty changing her bandages so I called my sister who lives in New Jersey explained the situation that Cindy has no money to hire someone in to clean the place up so she was willing to go but I told her don't just pop in on her call her not even sure if Cindy would answer her call which she didn't so my sister left her a message well Cindy called me asking who this person was that left her a message coming to visit said she was her cousin and I told her my sister but she was crying and so upset saying she won't let her in she doesn't remember her so I told her go back to sleep don't worry about it I will stop her from coming your way. So I called my sister told her Cindy was upset with her message and won't let her in doesn't remember her so not to go don't want to cause her to have another attack. I told Vicki I was surprised they let her out of the hospital with no one to take care of her. She must have told them that Vicki was going to take care of her she told the social worker she did not need anyone to come and her heart doctor was explaining everything to Vicki so then Vicki with talking with me realized Cindy probably told her heart doctor Vicki would take care of her. Vicki said she doesn't mind but she is unable to do so she can't see her every day she works has kids and takes care of her grandmother who has alchemizes. I worry about Cindy too but since she won't let my sister in who is family and definitely no strangers and said she won't let no one help her till after the 20th it is these important days now immediately after surgery that she needs help and with her not remembering her work number or my sister I don't know if it is shock from all that has happened or all the medication I just pray she is not getting dementia. If she is forgetting who knows if taking her medicine properly and she is a diabetic too and has that medicine to take. Vicki who lives across the street said her and Tommy never had visitors there. I told her the last time I was there was 2002 when my aunt died and the house was always immaculate. I was shocked that Cindy let it go this bad. Her house is in foreclosure as soon as the virus epidemic is over. I just don't know how to help her Hugs Dee & Tori

Oh my gosh, Dee. That is quite a story. Do you think if you talk to Cindy again on a different day, she might feel differently? If she is confused, maybe her emotions will change? It sounds like she needs professional level help. I can’t imagine what will happen when the bank finds out about the condition of the house. Heck, maybe that is why Cindy let things go. Wow. Kerp us posted about what is going on.
Hooray for Teddy eating!! I have heard about that collie gene. How did you find out that Teddy had it? Are dogs tested when they are puppies?
Pooks & Molly & Carol, it sounds like we have the same weather today. It is beautiful out. Unfortunately it will get hot again next week. ☹️

Lisa, isn't it funny how they call things different names in different areas. I have heard of a Florida room, which I assume is basically a sun porch, but I hadn't heard of an Arizona room before. I've heard people call it a three season room, too. I assume that is just in the south. I would imagine in the north they are only a two season room. BOL Leslie, I enjoyed the hike today, but sure could tell I was out of shape. Because of asthma and a leaky heart valve I tend to feel very out of breath walking uphill. And in east TN it is hard to find any place to walk where you don't have a hill. And you certainly can't find it up in the mountains. We started off going uphill and I made the comment at least we were getting in all the uphill bits going and it would be an easier downhill walk coming back. No sooner had I said that and we rounded a bend in the trail and it started sloping back down. Doh! So I guess I can sound like my mother and say I had to walk uphill both ways. BOL. I sweated buckets, plus we had a little drizzle at times. The humidity was high, but the temp wasn't too bad. Being overcast helped. One place I noticed it more than I thought I would have was my hip. Boy am I feeling that now. So not only do I get to talk about having to walk up hill both ways, I'm also going to smell like bengay. hehe. Total hike was about 2 miles. Got to see some wildflowers and lots of mushrooms along the way. The falls were pretty, but a couple of trees that had fallen spoiled the view a little. Still beautiful and worth the hike. Part of the trail getting to the falls ... (click to view larger) And the upper part of the falls ... (click to view larger) Anick, yay! So glad to hear Teddy ate breakfast. Hope he keeps that up. That is kind of scary about the Collie gene. Is there a test for that to know if you have a dog that has that? Dee, I'm glad Rosemarie did come play bingo, but sorry to hear about the lady making noises. What a shame. Is the senior center offering anything else through zoom that you might want to try? What a situation your cousin Cindy is in. It sounds like Vicki already has her hands full and doesn't need to take on more. I hope Cindy forgetting your sister is just a temporary thing. It's a shame she would let your sister come out and help clean things up. Wonder if Cindy let the house get so dirty because of the foreclosure situation. Figures if the bank is going to get the house then they can have a mess. Or do you think it was more that her health just got to where she was unable to keep up the house? Well, my hike wore me out today. I am hoping I can have an early night tonight. I could easily take a nap right now. hehe - Laura (Pippi, Cheeky, Inky and Nimbus)

Hi everyone!!
Leslie, I know what you mean about building up your strength! I really, really need to start walking, but it is so blazing hot outside!!I know, I know, I could go to the mall but I'm too afraid to do that during this pandemi, and I really dislike that anyway! Excuses, excuses.
Anick, hooray for Teddy eating!! I never heard of that Collie gene. How scary! How do you tell if your Collie has it? Is it Borde Collies, of do Lassie type collies get it too?
Dee, I am so sorry to hear about all the problems Cindy is having. I have a feeling it all started when she lost her husband. I sure hope she will agree to some help!
Molly, can we please have some of that awesome weather you are enjoying? We are getting back to 115 this weekend!!
Laura, what lovely pictures! Glad you were able to get out! I love hiking, but I know what you mean! My body just will not do what it used to do! When I was in my 20s, I hiked the grand Canyon. Couldn't walk for a week after! Ha ha!!

Good morning everyone Happy Saturday and Labor Day Weekend Anick I am so glad you know about the Collie Gene and are aware could not give Teddy regular flea and tick medication as it could kill him. It is rough having to watch out for many things so as not to cause harm to him but we are glad he is eating again Carol so glad you got your shawl in time before cooler weather sits in and it will keep you warm Toby Cindy may be up to it an another time but I will wait for her to call me I am afraid to call her house and wake her up since her doctor told her to get plenty of sleep. Leslie those are beautiful pictures of the hills you had to climb on your hike I got worn out just looking at them no way could I take a hike on those trails I need parks where they have benches I can sit down on and relax. The greenway in Florida where we used to walk had those benches we would sit a few minutes then continue our walk. They had benches set up about every mile. Now I understand seeing snakes you didn't mention if you ran across any on this walk Lisa as nasty as the house is I think it probably started after her mom died in 2002 as that hit her pretty hard and with her working and going back and forth to the hospital with her husband Tommy who had breathing problems with his COPD I just figured she did not have time for cleaning house' Laura they are setting up exercises but those are in the morning when we play games with Di nothing for the afternoon when I am free. Well yesterday I took Rosemarie to Florence to pick up her prescription and today taking her to the post office at 10:30 to mail books to her sister then to the grocery store we should get home about the same time as Di as Di goes out to eat at Chouys on Saturday then we play games when she gets home. Our weather turning chilly 55 this morning going to reach 79 clear Hugs Dee & Tori

You can find the Collie gene in every breed that as Border Collie in them. Before the Border Collie got their names they were known as Scottish shepherds and they are at the origin of many other breeds like the Lassie type of Collie, the Australian shepherd, the McNab and many others. The Border Collie is the one where you can find that gene the most. Lately they did find the gene in some breeds that are not related to the Border Collie and they think it might be part of some kind of evolution of the dogs. Most Border Collie are not register to kennel clubs but in Border Collie only associations and they are the ones who did pay for the research on the gene. They did find out that if both parents have the gene all the puppies have them but of only one parent have it the puppies have half the chances of having it so they did massive blood test and found lines of dogs who had it and contacted the owners to let them know. Both of Teddy's parent had the gene so he as it too. On Willy's side many have it too so we don't take any chances and he is considered as having it. I know the gene does affect other things in the dogs, I don't remember what, and it is good things so we got to learn and live with it.

Laura that is so beautiful and peaceful Anick we had a Border Collie/Australian Shepard back in the 80's named Buddy and he was so wonderful. Loved everyone around. He lived to be 11 . Now as for a Herding dog, Walker was excellent at that! He would herd Alexandria, Molly and Pooks from the fence when dumb kids would be near. I was and is always am out there but the first time I saw herding them I was amazed ! He had no training, just Love in his big heart. Him and Alexandria were Rotti/Lab and a smidgen of Husky My hubby has the Labor Day week off. We are just taking it easy. He needs to catch up on his sleep. Carol & Molly & Pooks

Good afternoon ladies!
Anick, I have a friend who had a border collie who lived to be 15. I think she has a mix now. I wonder if she knows about the collie gene. I imagine off you get your collie from a reputable breeder they would tell you. But if you got them from the shelter l sonnet if they would.
Dee, l understand about that! Losing my mom was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I hope you have a good time playing cards today!I
Carol, Walker was a special pup! Did you know about the collie gene? I never heard of it till Anick told us! Your package is supposed to get there Thursday.
