Way behind and just going back a few pages and skimming. I really hate missing so much and not reading everything, and reading it carefully. But alas, I can't keep up.
Lisa, how was the Princess Bride as a puppet show? Sounds interesting.
Leslie, I sometimes have silent migraines as well. Didn't realize I was having migraines at that time. My first symptom was often nausea. Sometimes I would have visual disturbances and sometimes not. I've also had migraines with killer headaches, too. I'll pass on those, thank you very much. I hope you find something that helps with yours. I have found a lot of mine are related to not drinking enough water. They also had a hormonal component. They are not nearly as bad since being spayed. hehe I ended up at the ER once with a migraine and they gave me a shot of Benedryl and a medication Cheeky used to take for digestive issues. Since then I will sometimes take a Benedryl if it seems like a bad one coming on. Seems to help. Can't remember if they told me it helps open up the blood vessels or constrict them. Either way, it helps. In general though I try to make sure I drink lots and lots and lots of water and then I don't get them in the first place.
Anick, the eye drops you have for your headaches - are those over the counter or do you need a prescription?
Diane, I give you and Buddy a lot of sympathy on nights he is not sleeping well. I am having that problem a lot with Pippi. She needs help getting on her feet most of the time now. Last night she was so wiggly. She woke me a little before 6 this morning when she wiggled her bed and herself off my bed. That's a big drop and she made a loud thump. Poor girl. Anyway, up 2, 3 or 4 times a night with her all too often. I hope you and Buddy are both sleeping well now and not an ongoing problem.
Dee, those were some cute library quilts you posted. The third one like book shelves looks like it would be quick and easy to do. Were you inspired to make a library themed one?
Anick, grrr on the neighbor causing damage to your greenhouse. Why can't people just be kind to others and do the right thing? Hmm. Can you get permission from the city to divert the water right back to the neighbor? hehe
Carol, what kind of flowers did you plant in your flower garden? Can't wait to see pictures when it's blooming. I see lots of houses with Iris blooming around here, but mine don't even seem to have stems yet. They are so far behind everyone else's. I hope they are doing to do something this year. I have some trumpet vine in one corner of my yard. I see hummers at it sometimes.
Lisa, that cat quilt from Fair House was cute. Do you have a link to the site?
Dee, your bears are adorable. Your table is going to be popular at your craft sale!
$50 - $89 seems very cheap for a hand made quilt. Especially if it is a bed sized quilt. Heck, around here to have someone quilt a crib quilt cost me over $100. I had pieced it, but I don't quilt. So that $100 didn't even cover my material costs, batting and backing. Not to say anything of my time.
That is a frustrating and scary thought - areas where car ins is not required. Wonder what the thinking is behind that.
Leslie, if Murphy wants to learn to be naughty, especially on a walk, he should come walk with Willow. hehe. She zig zags worse than any dog I have ever known. And she does it with such enthusiasm that I am sometimes jerked from one side of the greenway to the next. She starts making me feel off balance and dizzy. Some days I make her walk at my side, but I'd rather she be able to sniff and check out things. Just in a straight line. She has been better about the squirrels, but saw a rabbit today. I think the whole neighborhood knew where she was. She went berserk. We've been walking together for a few months now, but I can tell she didn't go on walks when she was younger. I thought I was going to get her started in a class at PetSmart, but sadly the trainer was not there the day we went in and apparently no one in the store knew how to sign someone up for a class or answer a question. They also were not sure when the trainer would be back so I could talk to her. The next morning the class I had wanted was no longer listed and their next beginner class in the afternoon is not until the end of JULY! Grr.
I've started working on some tricks with her and Dakota. Neither of them gets it as quickly as Pippi used to. She sure spoiled me being so smart. Dakota catches on fairly well. Willow ... she is slow and it seems to take forever for things to click for her. But we keep working on it. After two weeks she will finally offer her paw to shake. She will sit and trying to work on down. So far she doesn't have a clue. Dakota can do sit and down and wait. This afternoon was the first time I could step back from Willow and have her not pop up from her sit. So making a little progress. Just slow. I am hoping by working on some of these things maybe she will pay more attention when out on walks and do better. We'll see.
A friend introduced me to a site recently that has a long list of tricks. I think they say they have a video or tutorial for each one. You might get some good ideas there.
domorewithyourdog.com/DogTricks/tricktionary/ I'm curious. How did you teach Murphy to stick his tongue out on command? Wish we lived closer and could work with our dogs together. I have walking buddies, but they are interested in working on tricks or manners.
What had worked for Pippi and Dakota for down was to have them sit and then with a treat in my hand (in a fist, top of hand up) take my hand to the floor and roll it under (towards me - just curl fist under). They would go down to try and get at that treat. Not working as well yet for Willow. She pops out of her sit so she can get her head down better to get at the treat.
Lisa, congratulations for 25 years and for the gift card and pin. Nice!
Anick, I am going to hope you get to see karma at work and the groundhog gets your neighbors pool.
Lisa, I am going to have to check out the video for teaching down. I will save that for after I catch up here in at least one thread. (sigh - I'm so slow at this!)
Oh Marty, I hate to read your husband had a stroke. My thoughts and prayers are with both of you. I hope it was a mild stroke and that he will have a speedy recovery.
Glad he can do some rehab, but will be even more glad when he can come home. I'm also glad you have some family near by that can help with Toffee and other things.
Deb, yay for Foofy's nail trim. I need to do Pippi's. The cats are probably about due, too. Willow seems to keep hers worn down enough with walking, but need to take Dakota soon.
Anick, if the pool leaks and runs into the pitbull lady's yard I think you should take her cookies and tell her about the damage to your greenhouse before she sends someone to talk to the other neighbor. hehe
Think I am caught up. At least from a few pages.
Willow has endless amounts of energy some days. Oh if I could only have some of her energy. She's a happy girl and sometimes an oblivious girl. I see progress in some areas and know there are other areas we still need work. But a work in progress.
Dakota is transitioning back out of her gentle leader and back to the leash attached to her harness. For a while she was feeding off Willow's energy and excitement and was pulling too much. Between the two of them that was 85 lbs of dog pulling me around. Happy to have her doing better. She doesn't like the gentle leader and I hated to do that to her, but I hated being jerked around so much even more.
Pippi ... she's hanging in there. Some days are not so bad and some days she needs more help. That may be helping her get back up to her feet, getting diapers off and on, or holding her steady while she potties. It doesn't sound like much, but some days it is very time consuming and I struggle to get anything done without multiple interruptions. For a dog that doesn't do much and sleeps a lot she is taking up a lot of time. And somehow she also seems to be even less active the last week or so. Some days I think she will make it to her 17th birthday this summer and some days I wonder.
I have pulling the banjolele out some lately and trying to make more time for music again. Pip gets me with this, too. I think I have yet to make it through a while song without her needing something. Hmm. Maybe she doesn't like my music. hehe. I would really like to get back to the bass and the banjo. I think I will have to start from the beginning again with the banjo.
I've also found some time to read. I need to re-read a couple of books I read last fall, but probably couldn't tell you much of anything about them. I've read a few other things though and wonder why I took so long to get back into it.
Mom's doing well all in all, but I did go over last weekend and took Pippi with me. She has probably 15 plates of cat food set about all over the place for her very spoiled cats. I was picking those up off the floor so Pippi wouldn't get them and noticed mom had put down two plates of bird seed. This was inside the house. So I see little signs here and there that the Alzheimer's is progressing, but all in all I would still say she is doing well.
The other thing I have been doing with my "free time" is trying to work with Dakota and Willow a little on tricks and basics.
My happy today is a nice long dog walk this morning and here in a few minutes we are heading over for a doggie play date. My girls LOVE running around in Toby's yard. Willow is the wild one in the group and the life of the party. She can be such a clown.
Sorry for such a long post! Maybe one of these days I will get back to being here daily and keeping up.
