Yes, Foofy, mom's grandfather was a veteran of the Vimy Ridge battle in WW1. That battle was one of the turning points for the Canadian soldiers in WW1.

Buddy and/or willy I'm curious - does Remembrance Day honor all soldiers who have served (living and dead), or is it for remembering those that have lost their lives? We have Memorial Day, which is to honor those who fought and lost their lives. And Veterans Day is to honor all who have served (living or not). Daisy & Josey sounds like a lot of people in your family to celebrate their service. Thank you to all of them for their service! Buddy thank you to mom's grandfather for his service as well! It is hard to imagine what those in WWI and WWII faced. Or any war for that matter. Mom had some uncles in the Air Force, and a cousin who served, but the only other person in the family she can think of that fought in a war was in the Civil War. An interesting story to share there. He was shot and hit in the face. They had buried everyone in shallow trench graves. They came through inspecting the graves and saw two fingers sticking up wiggling. It was mom's great, great grandfather (I think, I never can remember how many greats). He was still alive. They dug him up and got him to a field hospital and had to remove most of his lower jaw on one side. We have a picture of him. He lived years after the war and always wore a beard to cover where his face was sunken in. He fought at the battle of Shiloh. True story.

Oh my, Pippi! That is quite the story. What a brave man. Remembrance Day in Canada is to honour and remember the men and women who have served, and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict and peace.

Wow, Pippi, praise God they saved him so that your mom is here! 🤩
Everyfur, thinking of and honoring all of your families’ veterans, past and present.
Daddy is a former Marine, of course. And both my grandfathers were in the Army in World War II. Mama’s own grandpa and great-uncle were in the Army in World War I. She had an uncle and cousins in the Navy in World War II. And an uncle and a cousin in the Army later on. Several were career military. Some, like my Daddy, enlisted. Others were drafted.

Wow, so many who served among our members and families. I feel honored to know you all.
My mom was not fit for service, but she worked on behalf of of the military making things like adaptive clothing for those recovering from injuries.
