Hi everyone! Pippi,. that is SOME story!! Wow, so glad they found him!! Great he was a man and could grow a beard, too!! Our daddy was in the army, but only for two years. Mommy's daddy was in the navy and her uncle was a Colonel in the airforce. willy and Buddy, we like Remembrance Day! I think that is what our Veteran's Day used to be called.

Both of Mommy's grandfathers were in the Army. Her mom's dad worked on airplanes. She doesn't know what her father's dad did. She did have some other relatives who were in the Army too. She already told everyone about her ex boyfriend who was in the Air Force. Foofy wasn't around then. I don't know if Buddy was or not. He was sent to Kuwait & help man a "no flight zone" in the middle of the dessert. He also did search & rescue missions while active combat was going on. That means he was shot at while rescuing wounded & watching people get killed & loading them & their body parts onto the Medicopter or whatever exactly it was called. I'm sure he probably had to kill people as well. He couldn't unsee it all & became hopelessly hooked on drugs. He OD'd (on purpose) on pills back in November 2008. The pills didn't work straight away. He died later from overdose complications on November 19th 2008. I cannot imagine how much he suffered. I think about him everyday. I would like to post his obituary again even though none of you knew him. His death has left one heck of a void to many. He left behind a 5 year old daughter that never got to know him. ROBERTS, ROBBY DURWOOD C. JR., age 30, of Birmingham, AL passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Robby graduated from Center Point Christian School and after attending Jefferson State Junior College for awhile, he joined the United States Air Force. Following his basic and technical training he was assigned to Beale AFB in California. From Beale AFB he was deployed to Kuwait, where he was assigned to the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing at Ali Al Salem Air Base. There he earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for outstanding service performed under austere conditions. His love for country and the United States Air Force garnished him many more outstanding performance awards. He was preceded in death by his mother, Deborah Sue McClain, a native of Union Town, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his young daughter, Madison Anna Roberts; his father, Durwood C. Roberts, Sr.; his brothers, Adam L. Roberts and Billy Stanton; his grandparents, Richard and Anna Hughes, and Duel and Mary Roberts; and a host of other relatives. Visitation will be held at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at New Horizon Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at nearby Good Hope Cemetery. Forever we will love and remember Robby with his easy smile and gentle, quiet spirit. We look forward to spending eternity with him in a better place where our Lord and Savior reigns.

rosco thank your daddy for his service. And other family members. Thanks to all the families that have members who have served over the years. UsurpingToby that is interesting and wonderful that your mom could help out that way. Pawpaw couldn't serve either. His vision was too poor. The closest he got was Civil Air Patrol, and has been very active with that over the years. Not really the same as active duty though. Mom had some uncles that were in the Air Force, but I don't think they served during any active wars or conflicts. Twinkle (My Sweet Angel) I'm sorry about your mom's friend.

Twinkle (My Sweet Angel) I am very sorry. Serving messes up peoples mind. My one brother had 2 duties in Vietnam and went a little crazy for a while. It changed him and others forever.

Twinkle (My Sweet Angel), I am sorry about your loss Mom's grandfather, even though he survived the Vimy Ridge battle, suffered from what now would be called PTSD. He had the most horrible nightmares. He also suffered from the results of the mustard gas that was used in that battle for the rest of his life. His sister, Isabelle, and apparently mom looks just like her, was an army nurse in WW1 and she died in Belgium from an outbreak of typhus that was going around at the time. His youngest brother, James, lied about his age (16) and died on the first day of the Battle of Somme. His body has never been recovered. Mom's dad and his sister (mom's aunt) were members of the Home Guard during WWII. Many of aunty's grandchildren are now or have served in the Canadian forces. We salute all those are serving, have served and will serve our country.

Twinkle, I am so sorry about your mom’s boyfriend. I honor and appreciate all the veterans of all of you furs’ families. 🇺🇸🇨🇦 Although Mama’s Daddy served in the war zones in the South Pacific, he was a cook in a hospital unit (like a MASH unit except they didn’t call it that in World War II), so he was never in combat. But her maternal grandfather used to suffer from occasional nightmares and memories of all his young army buddies who had died in battle. Quinn is from a military family. His daddy and hu-sis were career military. Clarabelle, thank your daddy for his service.
