Toby great to see you here4 hope all is well n your household. Lisa smart to get just one hand done for now. Carol so glad to hear Pooks doing okay I think all Tori tumors are from her cushings a couple more coming up the ones she has getting bigger and kind of solid instead of juggling like jello. But her running and eating to me is a good sign. Hugs Dee, Tori & Dallas

Poor sweet Pippi Dee, my vet always say that for older dogs as long as they eat everything is alright. Teddy as a few lumps too as his Dad did but they are stable for now.

Hello Ladies~ I thought I would come here and get ya'll caught up with what's been going on. You remember when Stephen had to go to Iowa City last Sunday and spend the night at that hotel for two nights...Pre surgery and then surgery on Tues. Things went downhill after he got home. He was very weak, didn't hardly eat anything and was in bed the next seven days 95% of the time. I kept wanting him to call, he said who do I call? There are too many hands in his cases. He always went to D.M. for his urinary things. And now, the VA AND University there in Iowa City have him between doctors, etc. He did set an Appt to see his primary on a few days back. She gave him two shots, said he had a kidney infection. (he really doesn't ask questions because I don't think he really wants to know, and then I don't know anything!) Iowa City got involved in that also. So we dropped off prescriptions and picked them up the next day, which was yesterday. And then, he was having problems breathing, and his oxygen levels went way down. So I begged him to call 911. The local EMS came out last evening and I told them how he'd been for a week, not eating, sleeping or laying in bed for hours. He did run 101. something that first day home, and then low grade fever for a few days. EMS finally got him on the cot (there was sn-ow on our front porch) and took him over to Mercy. He was tested for COVID and it was positive. All my fears had come true. I spoke with him last night and this morning and then he called at noon. They have him isolated. They can't find a vein, so they are getting something special to use to get an IV in. I believe he's got another blood infection going on. I don't know how long he will be here at our hospital. I know he probably needs to go back to Iowa City. Remember when he had that blood infection and we were doing intravenous injections? Myself and his daughter thinks it's back. Don't know for sure, but he is where he needs to be for right now and on oxygen. And they are feeding him well. He couldn't wait to tell me what was on the menu for tomorrow's Bfast lunch and dinner. As for me...I still have a bad head col d and thought I was getting bronchitis, as I had a croupy cough. I am sure I probably have the virus as well. Laura we are purring and for Pippi. I need to rest now. Hugs 'n Love, Kathy 'n Milo 'n angels

Oh Kathy, I don’t know what to say! I hope all of you are OK. Are you going to seek treatment for the virus before it gets worse? I can’t believe how complicated things are for you 🙁

Dee, I didn't realize tumors could be a part of Cushing's. What other ways does Cushing's affect Tori's health? I think the vet mentioned it as a possibility of Cheeky's health earlier in the year as a result of long term steroid use, but dropping her steroid level down seemed to take care of things for the time being. Kathy, I sure hate to hear about Stephen having the virus! I will certainly be keeping him in my prayers. Sounds like his poor body is fighting a lot, not just covid. You are right, he is where he needs to be right now. I sure hope you don't have the virus, but sounds like you may be right. for you as well. Don't wait too long to get medical help for yourself if you need it! Things can change and go downhill quickly. Gosh, keeping you both in my prayers! Do you have any family that can come help you or help with Milo if you end up in the hospital? You rest and take it easy and give us an update when you can. Dee, I'm getting really excited about your balloon ride tomorrow, and I'm not even going up. hehe. I can't wait to hear about it and see pics. I am envious. Hope you have a wonderful time, have beautiful weather and get to see some lovely fall color. Been a busy couple of days here. Well, actually yesterday really wasn't that busy but I was a zombie from lack of sleep. Today has been busy trying to get two days worth of stuff done. Talked with the vet yesterday and today. Yesterday he wanted me to stop Pippi's antibiotic and Rimadyl for 24 hours and let him know how she did. The thinking there is that one of the medications might be causing nausea. So no meds last night or this morning. She ate fine yesterday, but slept just about all day long. Most of the day she continued to have shallow breathing, but at least had stopped panting and shaking with the exception of a little bit mid morning. Last night her breathing finally seemed to get back more to normal. As far as I know she slept fine last night. I would have to admit I was dead to the world from lack of sleep the night before. So if she had any problems I slept through them. I actually didn't speak to the vet today but got him an update on Pippi and he sent word back to me. Going to keep her off the meds for the weekend and then he will be in touch on Monday to let me know from there. She looks like she feels better today, doesn't feel warm now, but is still napping a lot. At least when she is up and moving around she seems to be perked up some. Have not seen any more panting, shaking or shallow breathing. So all that seems good. Her appetite was good yesterday and has been today. Really not sure what to think at this point, but keeping fingers that she has rounded a corner here and on the mend. Playing it day by day for the moment. Think I have picked contractor and system/solution for new heat pump. I've spent a lot of time over the last few days trying to look up and understand a lot of things about heat pumps and duct work and balanced loads and matching systems, etc. Most of it has been over my head, but hopefully it's helped to make the best decision that fits my pathetic budget. hehe. Just playing phone tag at this point to get a contract signed and on the schedule for the install. I will certainly be relieved when this whole process is over and it's not taking up any more of my time. Especially my play time! - Laura (Pippi, Cheeky, Inky and Nimbus)

Laura and everyone, thank you so much for your concerns~ Stephen IS going through a bunch, he tells me he also has pneumonia. But they started giving him that Drug Remdesivir, not sure if that is the way it's spelled, but the same drug they gave to Trump. I guess it's not really FDA approved yet, so they asked if he wanted it and he said YES~ They are giving it five times a day. It might help, you never know and can't really hurt in his situation. They finally got an IV in.
I called my doctors office today and heard my doctor isn't there anymore. Ugh. but they would see me, and I would have a new doc. Just wanted to let them know I had been exposed. I rested a bunch this afternoon. Stephen's brother called me to check on me, Stephen calls him his second mom~ I am going to lay back down now. My breathing as I need to be as still as can be, so it doesn't hurt and my chest doesn't feel heavy and cough. Thank you all for being here for me.

Hello ladies! Oh my, I missed a couple days and come back to such news! Prayers for you and Stephen, Kathy!! I sure hope Stephen gets better soon and you do, as well. Sending healing thoughts and prayers! Laura, I sure m sorry Pippi is having so many problems as well. I hope she has rounded the corner and it is all uphill from here!! (Hoping the heat pump decision was the exact right one!) Dee, I read in another post that the flight was postponed! I'm sorry, but better safe than sorry!! Leslie, you are so right! Kathy and Stephen remind me of that old HeeHaw song, It it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all! Anick, I'm so glad you said that about old dogs. It's funny, I put Tango in the bathroom with his food and he'll eat a little of it, but then I go in there with him and hold the food under his nose and he will eat almost all of it. Carol, thank you so much for the prayers!! Marty, I hope Hershey is over his cold! Well, my surgery has been postponed. The doctor had a family emergency, so it will be on the 9th instead. I will have to get another COVID test next week. Have any of you had one? FUN! Love to all, Lisa Love

Sorry to hear about the pneumonia Kathy. I'm glad there is something they can give Stephen to help with the covid. I hope he will respond well and get over it quickly. Is the pneumonia from the covid? I hope the meds will help with that, too. Yay for the IV. Hope they can get everything under control now. And I sure hope when he gets to come home they will set up some home health. Kathy, I'm glad you are going to see the doctor. I hope you don't have to wait long for your appointment. Even if you don't have covid it sounds like you need to see the doc anyway. Hoping for a speedy recovery for you as well. Oh I missed the post about the balloon ride being postponed. I'm so sorry. Hope you don't have to wait long before you can go. Lisa, I am sorry your surgery has been postponed. I'm even more sorry you have to get another covid test. I have not had one. Must be bad. - Laura (Pippi, Cheeky, Inky and Nimbus)

Sending prayers for Kathy and Stephen, I really hope the medication work good for him. We have not had the covid test. We have been very sick right before there was a test available and the doctor think we might have had it but we will never know for sure, we have been lucky to not have been exposed since then.
Lisa, aren't they good into manipulating us or what? Teddy as me sitting with him for every meal.

Good morning everyone Happy Friday Lisa so sorry your surgery was postpone and now you have to take a second COVID test no fun. My hot air balloon ride was cancelled I had to go online and reschedule after I checked with Lisa and Jerry for their schedule so we plan on going Friday, November 6 if this is cancelled I will wait till spring or fall. I just hope there are still some autumn colors when I go up on Friday November 6 Stephen and Kathy you are both in our prayers hoping the medicine clears Stephen from the COVID so he can get rid of the pneumonia. Sorry your doctor no longer there you will see a new doctor and maybe you have pneumonia like Stephen and not COVID we are for you both. Nice that Stephen brother calls to check up on you. Carol hoping Molly and Pooks are still doing good with their medicine. Anick glad you were over being sick before the COVID test and you haven't done the COVID test I haven't had it done either Laura the symptoms are not the same in all dogs for cushings Tori was doing a lot of panting but not drinking a lot of water or peeing a lot but my concern she was getting big with a pot belly so paid the expensive all day blood work and she did have cushings. She shakes or shivers as you say constantly even in warm weather. Just lately all these tumors have been showing up on her and in the Cushings support group their dogs are getting them too. But their doctors did the needle saying fatty will not remove unless it causes them problems where my vet wanted to do surgery to remove them and I don't have that kind of money to pay for surgery and they keep popping back up he said he can't tell what type they are till he does surgery to see. As long as Tori is eating and running and playing with Dallas I will not do surgery on her. Because of this disease and her kidney disease and her kidneys not working good why put her through a surgery. Hugs Dee, Tori and Dallas

Dee, I think you are smart to just keep an eye on things with Tori and not put her through the surgery. In the spring when Cheeky was having some issues and the vet mentioned Cushing's if I remember right she was doing some shaking if she went too long without eating, was having some joint pain, and getting a pot belly. We didn't do the test, but luckily were able to lower her steroid dose which seemed to help. the vet did say long term steroid use can cause Cushing's, but the good news is, it is usually reversible if you can get off of or lower the steroid dose. We couldn't take Cheeky quite as low as we had hoped, but luckily we were able to drop enough to help with the shaking and joint pain. She still has a bit of a pot belly, which the vet said she has an enlarged liver. Don't you hate when things start becoming a balancing act? A little frustrated with the contractor I have chosen for the heat pump. Left word yesterday around lunch time that I was ready to go with them, but have not heard back. I know the salesman had said the other day that the other salesman was out sick. So he was swamped, but I still would have expected some sort of contact from him, even if just to say I got your message and will be in touch. Next week looks like we have some nights going down into the low 30s and one night even in the 20s. I know they said they are scheduling 3 to 5 business days out. So I am anxious to get on the schedule. Pippi's appetite is still good and she is getting a little more energetic. She even felt like harassing the cats this morning. hehe. I'll take that as a good sign. On the other hand, before she would every now and then do a cough that sounded like she had something stuck in her throat. Now that I have stopped the meds I am hearing more of that. I'll keep an eye on things. - Laura (Pippi, Cheeky, Inky and Nimbus)

Good afternoon ladies!
Dee, I am with you on that! Tango has quite a few bumps on him, but with his age and dementia, I am NOT putting him through surgery! I think you are doing the right thing with Tori. I hope you can go on the balloon ride next Friday. Make sure you bundle up!!
Anick, you are so right! Those dogs have our numbers, that is for sure!!
Laura, I had no idea steroids could cause those kind of side affects! Glad you were able to lower Cheek's dosage. And really glad to hear Pippi is more energetic. Whenever Clarabelle starts coughing, I give her half a benedryl. But it's usually at night so she is going to be sleeping anyway. I hope the company called you back by now!
As for the COVID test, it's just uncomfortable! You have to stick a swab up your nose and twirl it around for 15 seconds in each nostril. Definitely brings tears to your eyes!!
