Good afternoon everyone!!
Dee, that is why everyone should do a living will. Then when they are incapacitated like that, with no hope of recovery, their medical power of attorney could make that decision. And I agree, only when there is no hope!Love hat pocket shawl!
Anick, you make me want to move to Canada! Ha ha!! You guys are so far ahead of us in so many ways!!
Carol, I hope your beautiful sun shiney day is awesome! We would like some clouds, please!!
Laura, oh yes, I agree! There has to be NO hope! Terminal cancer, advanced dementia, etc. Glad you decided to put the AC in the sun room. That sounds so nice! Are you looking for company? Hee hee!
Chuck just found out a friend died of congestive heart failure a couple days ago. That is what he has. Maybe it will inspire him to quit smoking. I know it scares him.

ood morning everyone Happy Friday Kathy I agree with Laura you should talk with your doctor about all the problems you are having with leakage or the nurse that comes in to assist may have some ideas for you in preventing them. I hope your supplies finally came in. Laura I will always have paperwork to do yearly while Ward still in the nursing home with Medicaid and the courts for the guardianship. The right to die is like when Ward and I made a living will we don't want to be kept alive with feeding tubes or machinery. But those living wills should also have a clause about terminal illness like dementia. Since some cancer can be cured you can't specify cancer and as you mentioned depression can be cured if people take medication. As with everything else you would have people abusing it. Sorry you are feeling so worn out but as you age you wear down a lot easier and the heat definitely does not help. When I was young I could go through a whole house cleaning but have to admit I had a bad case of Strep Throat when I was a sophmore in high school and since then my energy has not been the greatest. Getting older doesn't help either. Mine other problem is being motivated no one comes to visit so why bother Laura the pockets will be the same color as the shawl. First one will be burgundy for Carol. Carol I ordered the yarn will come in today so I may set aside my blanket to start on the shawl so anxious to do the shawl. If I do one for myself I was thinking of a pretty pale blue like in the video I watched. Toby it is crocheted the printed pattern states crocheted and watching the video was crocheted. Laura I am like your sister not a chatterbox but like pockets never thought about socks but when I saw this shawl with pockets I fell in love with it. I don't carry a purse around I just have my billfold with my drivers license, and insurance card and pockets perfect for it. This I don't need a fancy place to wear Lisa hoping Ranger doesn't need teeth pulled but you have a good vet to only charge you for 1 and a half when Tango had 3 pulled. Lisa sorry about your friend dying from congestive heart failure hope Chuck does quit smoking. We have a living will from Florida I had a new one in Kentucky but the lawyer would not do one for Ward since he already had dementia and people in Kentucky don't want to deal with something from Florida but I gave them a copy of his Florida Living Will when he had a sane mind and was making decisions. That is why I ended up having to get a guardianship as the lawyers would not do it for Ward in is condition told me to bring him in when better I explained with dementia there is no better just worse Anick how is your shawl coming along Marty what are you doing

Dee, here for dementia if someone did write a living will, just like Lisa did say, and it is say that person doesn't want to live with dementia the person who care about the belonging of the person who as dementia can bring that paper to court to have it approve by a judge and it can be done when the person with dementia as come to a level when the doctor say all quality of life is almost gone. I would not say we are ahead on some things, we are just different as countries even if we are alike on many things, here we are what most people in the USA fear and dislike, a social-democracy Dee, I am very slow on the shawl, I have only about 25 rows to do but I am extremely slow doing them right now, I do find the time to do only one row a day right now....I am working at turtle speed!

Dee I thank you so very much Lisa my dad had congestive heart failure and so does my hubby and our son. My dad took a pill dailey way back then but thankfully things have changed drastically since the 70's. My hubby and son take meds and see their Doctors. Both stopped smoking. Hubby stopped 12/1996 and son stopped 1/2019. They are both doing good.

Daisy & Josey, that is so great that both hubby and son quit smoking! Chuck keeps saying he will, but hasn't yet. He gets mad at me when I nag, so I just keep my mouth shut. willy, it makes me so that people are afraid of social democracy. We really are there, but they don't understand it. We have social security, medicare, and so many other things that are already "social." And if they would just TRY the socialized medicine, I bet they would like it!! DALLAS I hear what you are saying! It is that so many are so pig headed about that sort of thing. A notarized document from Florida, of Vermont, or California, should be good in Tennesse, or Kentucky or where ever! I agree, we have to be careful, but if a doctor says the quality of life is not there, then let's give them the peace they desire, if that is what they specified!! Again, I'll get off my soap box. Love you all!

Lisa, I sure am sorry to hear about Chuck's friend. Like you, I hope it will help him want to try and quit smoking. Maybe the motivation he needs. Has he made many diet changes or gotten into any kind of an exercise routine? For that matter, is he able to exercise? Maybe walking? Although that would be hard in your weather!! You need a pool. I sure wish I had one. Even if it was just walking around in the pool that would be good. Dee, I never thought about something like a living will being good in one state but not another. There needs to be a way to make one good for the whole US. Can't wait to see pics of your shall when you finish. I still can't get over how quickly you can do projects! I think the most tired I have ever been is when I had mono. I was in high school at the time. I was convinced at one point that I would have to get more energy to even have the energy to die. It seemed like it took forever to be able to go all the way up or down the stairs without having to stop and rest a time or two. Every little thing wore me out. And when I finally did start feeling better and like doing something I couldn't because of the fear of liver damage I think it was. It was a slow recovery. Shortly after that it seemed like I fought strep throat for a year. No sooner would I get over it before I had it again. My mom finally insisted the doctor refer me to an ear, nose and throat specialist who barely took one look in my mouth and said my tonsils needed to come out. Oddly enough I've never had strep since getting them out. The other thing that happened around the time was I was diagnosed with a heart murmur and leaky valve. Obviously my parents didn't get the extended warranty when I was born. BOL! Guess I have never been a person with oodles of energy. Carol, good for your son and hubby on quitting smoking. Did they make other changes after the diagnosis of CHF? Gosh, you just don't think of someone your son's age as dealing with that, but it's probably more common than I realize. I do agree that quality of life is important - both for people and pets. My vet and I have had the conversation more than once and are in agreement that quality is more important than quantity. Maybe some day we will see those options for people in the US, too. I need to think about dinner here before long and don't have clue what I want to make. I think the biggest part of the problem is "I" don't want to make it. I'd rather someone else did ... and cleaned it up. hehe. Guess I will head over to the cafe and get hungry and maybe get some inspiration. hehe. - Laura (Pippi, Cheeky, Inky and Nimbus)

Hiya Lady's! Checking in ~
Well, Laura; Dee, I think we have found out what the problem was with the wafer leaking. The skin where it is glued to must be extremely clean and dry before applying the wafer which has fresh glue on it. The glue had stuck to his skin there on his belly, so we had to actually scrape it off with our nails. Then I used soap and warm water to wash 'n dry it really good. So that was three days ago, and it had been good. Then, Stephen let me know he sprang a small leak early this morning and did a patch job. We will change it again today and I will wash and dry. We are suppose to change every three days anyway. And suppose to flush the other tubing in his back every other day. We're hoping it comes out sometimes in October, although that will be more surgery. Those bags have not come yet. Anick do you speak French? I have always thought that was such a beautiful language. I did take a couple classes in High School, but don't remember much! lol Yes I know what ya'll mean about getting older. My energies kind of depends on my night's sleep also. Like I had said, some days better than others. Today I did get more laundry done, garbage bagged up. We collect plastic soda pop bottles for our High School here for fireworks, and I got them bagged up and put to the garage, as well. We have tons of boxes down in the basement and Stephen will go down there for a bit and start ripping them up and cutting them down for trash. We 'can' use twine or something, but here it is regulated and the bundle can only be of certain size, and Stephen doesn't want to mess with it. Our weather is warming up each day gradually. Weather dude says humidity will take over soon. The only good thing about that is my wrists don't crack as much with more moisture in the air. Supposedly, we might get some rain in the morning. We desperately need it, the farmers as well. When Stephen drove down to D.M. he saw all those crops that were flattened due to that hurricane forced winds that came through there. Seen 100 mph came through Marshalltown. Stephen's Niece lives just outside of Cedar Rapids where it was really hit hard. Fortunately they had a generator, as some of the power was out for days and days. Such a tragedy and not anything normal.

Good morning everyone Happy Saturday Anick the only problem with Living Will it does not have a clause in it for a terminal illness or dementia I wish it did but it does state not to be kept alive by machines or feeding tubes. I have told the nursing home not to take him to the hospital if he gets sick as they would just prolong things. Wonder how one can get those things to be changed. Anick so you just do one row at a time that is fine it will be done eventually. Carol the yarn arrived last night at 6:30 pm so I started the pocket shawl set aside my blanket have 11 rows completed there are a total of 88 rows then the pockets and the border. I am anxious to see it when completed. Carol That is great your husband and son quit smoking Kathy I am glad you figured out why the leaks and able to make sure don't get too many of them. Wishing Steve a Happy Birthday on Monday hope he wins big at the casino when you got Lisa I hope Chuck will quit smoking but understand you about not wanting to say anything since he considers it nagging. He is hurting himself plus you having to breathe in the 2nd hand smoke and the doggies too. Lisa I never had mono but that strep throat knocked me for a loop and the doctor said next time the tonsils come out but whenever I had the slightest sore throat I gargled with Listerine and warm salt water so here I am 70 and still have my tonsils. I have never been in the hospital for any type of surgery only stitches when I cut my hand on a broken glass when doing dishes and one time on a rotary blade when I was cutting out quilt pieces. I know what you mean about dinner I don't want to make it and clean it up would prefer someone else or go out to eat and be waited one. Leslie how are you doing on your afghan have you got it finished. Are you teaching Toby some tricks or reading Marty how are things at your house

I did get mono too, almost everyone at my school, I was a six grader, did get it and I was one of the last one. It did not last long for me, I am never sick for a long time, but it was intense. I did sleep for almost 3 days in a row and started to feel better very fast after that. I did have to stay in isolation for 10 days so my younger sister did not catch it. I remember getting many blood test the fallowing year but I never did know what for because I was feeling fine.
Kathy, French is my first language and it is what I speak in everyday's life but I did learn English very young by watching Sesames Street! LOL!

Hmm. For some reason it looks like I have a hard time typing SHAWL instead of shall. Too bad I don't go back and read what I type BEFORE I post it rather than the next day. hehe. Kathy I am really sorry the supplies are taking so long. Sheesh. You almost need to order more as soon as the ones arrive so they will be there on time. But then I'm sure insurance won't pay for them that soon again. Sigh. Glad you have figured out the trick to the wafers though. That will be a big help I am sure. Would those little alcohol wipes/pads help get the old sticky off? I'm lucky here. They pick up garbage every week in rolling bins. We have the same size rolling bin for recycling that they pick up every other week. They will also come by every other week for yard debris such as sticks and limbs. I think you can put grass clippings if it is bagged. On the opposite weeks they will pick up large household stuff that won't fit in the bins. Then in the fall and a few weeks in the spring we can put our leaves out by the curb and they come by and vacuum them up. We don't have to bag them - just pile them at the edge of the road. Speaking of hurricane winds, someone was telling me there is a tropical storm Laura headed for the gulf coast probably. And another tropical depression that may develop into more and hit the gulf also about the same time. Sounds like they are going to get a double whammy. Anick, I envy you getting over the mono quickly. I would say I barely got out of bed for probably two weeks and then another two weeks or more before I started doing much at all. I know my siblings were bringing my school work home for me. I just remember it seeming like forever before I had the energy to do anything at all. I got lucky and Christmas break was part of the time I was sick, but seems like I missed about a month of school. Nothing exciting going on here. I've started a new murder mystery book series. (New to me.) Seemed like many of the other series I was trying to read I had to wait too long for the next book. So I found this series through Hoopla and haven't had to wait. Just on the second book, but enjoying it. So today I have been lazy after getting back from my parents' house and I have kicked back and read a while. I've had a dog on each side of me snoring in stereo. hehe - Laura (Pippi, Cheeky, Inky and Nimbus)

Hello everyone!!! Marty ( Angels Hershey & Winkie) we are for you!! Laura, wow, what a wonderful service you have for your trash pick-up! We get our garbage and recylcing picked u every week, but bulk trash only 4 times a year!! I've never had mono, and boy, I hope I never do!! And I had my tonsils out when I was 5! As for Chuck, he HAS cut down on how much soda he drinks, and takes his meds most of the time. Since I do the cooking, I should be cooking healthier, but he only likes meat and potatoes!!So when I try to interesting yet healthy meals, he isn't satisfied! (Plus, he loves his ice cream!) The good news is that instead of working at 15%, like when he was in the hospital, his heart is back to 60%, which is much closer to normal. Carol, you are right about the pills, because it sure isn't Chuck's diet, exercize or smoking that has improved his heart function!! Glad they caught your son's early!! Kathy, glad you learned about getting the glue off and cleaning the site and drying it well. You'd think they would have told you all that to begin with! Many prayers that the tube can be removed soon! Dee, I think the only way to change things is to have people get it on the ballot!! I agree about the smoking, but I don't know what more I can do!! Anick, I love the French language too, and am so envious of your bilingual abilities! Funny you learned English from Sesame Street!! That's great that you had such a mild case of Mono!! Laura, I did see something about that double whammy hurricane thing! Looks horrible. I JUST watched The Perfect Storm, which is very , about three storms all colliding together on the ocean and the fishing vessel and lives that were lost. George Clooney is in it, which is why I watched it again! (He is so yummy!) Lisa and Clarabelle, Ranger, Sparkle and Tango

Good morning everyone Happy Sunday Kathy you and Stephen have a great time at the Casino and celebrate big time his birthday on Tuesday Lisa so glad you did not have mono Sorry Chuck is a meat and potatoes man and love his ice cream. I love my potatoes and ice cream but more of a chicken person. I used to try and fix Ward healthy food they said would help bring back his memory and he complained I was trying to kill him so went back to what he liked to eat. But look at it this way we are all going to die. Healthy people die too so I am going to enjoy what I like to eat. Laura you were hit hard with the mono to be out of school for a month. No fun being sick. I got hit with the flu bug when I was in my 20's in New Jersey off sick from work for 3 weeks ever since then I always take the flu shot. Usually I am pretty healthy. then when living in Florida I was off 3 weeks because I had gotten food poisoning I thought I was dying I was sick both ways. Anick I never had French but speak English in High School took Spanish but haven't used it since out of high school. I did so well in it never dealing with a foreign language my high school Spanish nun wanted me to go to college for it and be a translator at the UN. But I didn't do that. I think it is funny you learned to speak English from Sesame Street you would think all these spanish speaking kids would watch it so they could learn to speak English. Laura glad you are able to get your mystery books so you can sit and read with two dogs by your side snoring away I like George Clooney too did you know he was playing on The Facts of Life and he played in a show called Sisters I loved that show too bad it quit. Marty we are for you post to let us know you are all safe Carol mommy has finished 30 rows on the shawl Yesterday at 2 a storm started here and we just finished playing Kismet I told them won't play cards want to get home to Tori with this storm did not know if sirens would go off. Hugs Dee & Tori

Lisa I think my parent's neighborhood only picks up bulky things once a month. I can't imagine only four times a year. Do things sit a long time waiting for those four times, or do people haul things to the dump themselves? Or do they hold it back in their yard somewhere waiting for those four times a year? If I remember right I was 16 when I had my tonsils out. I can remember staying one night in the hospital (bet they don't do that any more) and sharing a room with an 8 year old girl who had a broken leg and wanted to talk a lot. I didn't want to talk at all. hehe That is fantastic news the improvement in Chuck's heart function. Can that be attributed mostly to medication? I had forgotten about the perfect storm. Too bad one storm doesn't just push another out of the way rather than them combining. I think I read something the other day saying the last time we had two hurricanes hit on the same day was during the depression in the 1930's. In that case I think one hit Florida on the Atlantic side and another hit the gulf coast. I haven't had the TV on to see how "Laura" and the other storm is shaping up or even to see if the other has been named yet. Dee, oh hear. Thankfully I have never had the flu as bad as you. You just never know though, do you? I have had food poisoning once and hope never to have it again. That was a miserable few days. Again, thankfully it didn't last longer than it did. I have always liked languages, but have not taken any French. I had some Latin and German in high school and in college took some Russian, Arabic and Polish. I was taking Russian at the time I took Arabic and if I didn't know the word in Russian I never could remember it in Arabic. My brain would go English to Russian to Arabic and Arabic to Russian to English. I did not know George Clooney was in the Facts of Life. And I'm not sure I have seen or remember the show called Sisters. Carol temps in the 70s sounds nice! Hope you get that soon and hope it filters it's way down this way. We've had a few rainy and cloudy days so that has helped here a little, but I'm still more than ready for fall weather. I heard from a friend in CA last night. He sent me a message on FB asking if I could try and call his parents who live over towards middle TN. He has been trying to call them for three weeks and keeps getting a message about equipment problems. He wondered if calling from within the same state would work any better. I tried and didn't get through either. The message said something like the call couldn't be completed because of phone company "afility". I can't tell for sure what they are saying, but that was what it sounded like. I had never heard that message before. I will preface this next comment by saying I was trying to lighten the mood and make jokes when I asked was the town his parents were in on the wrong side of the presidential race or BLM so they weren't letting phone calls in or out? hehe On a more serious note I hope my friend is able to get through to his parents, soon. He said he had sent them a telegram and someone had signed for it, but he has not had a reply back from them. I've had another piece of the pork roast going in the crock pot today. I may be somewhat healthy and put some riced cauliflower with it. I love rice and pasta and other carbs, but trying to cut down here and there. I think I could almost give up chocolate before I could give up rice. - Laura (Pippi, Cheeky, Inky and Nimbus)

Good evening all! Oh wow, Dee, stock for three weeks from food poisoning? That sounds horrible! I don't remember which thread you were talking about it, but it was Arizona Granite mountain Hotspots who got killed in those wild fires, about two hours North of us. There is a really good but movie about it with Don Johnson called Only the Brave. Laura we don't know that show called sisters either. Hey, I just made this 8 can taco soup. Really easy. You can throw it all in the crock pot and it's very good. One can each drained pinto beans, drained black beans, drained corn, chicken broth, cream of chicken soup, green enchilada sauce, diced tomatoes and white chicken. I also added a second can of chicken and a can of diced green chilies. (You could also use rotisserie chicken). People are only allowed to put out the bulk trash a week before pick up. So l suppose they either go to the dump or save up! (You're allowed one free trip to the dump a month with your water bill.) Carol we are so jealous of your weather. We got to 115 today. Anick, l took four semesters of Spanish in college but l still can't speak it! I admire people who are bilingual!I Leslie, have you got any fun projects going on? Kathy l hope you are having a great time! Hoping Marty and Angels Hershey & Winkie are okay!
